Our Values, our Mission
Helping Students To See Math Differently
about
Teaching is not my career; Teaching is my calling
Meet Mr Lim
For nearly two decades, I have had the privilege of teaching thousands of Junior College students H2 Mathematics. During this time, I have met students from every background—those who consistently excelled, those who struggled to keep up, and many who had convinced themselves they simply were not “Math people.”
Yet after all these years, I have come to believe one thing.
Most students do not struggle because they lack ability. They struggle because no one has explained the concepts in a way that truly makes sense to them.
A good student knows what to ask his teacher, but the right teacher will know what questions the good student did not ask. Every student learns at a different pace. Frequently, I see myself having to teach numerous concepts in 2 to 3 different approaches in order to get the entire class on the same page.
What a failing student needs is not more practice nor a good teacher, but the right teacher.
I did not start 180° to become the biggest tuition centre. I started it to create a place where students could genuinely understand Mathematics, rebuild their confidence, and discover that learning H2 Math does not have to be stressful or intimidating.
To me, success in Mathematics has never been about memorising formulas or completing the greatest number of practice papers. It begins with understanding the concepts, recognising the patterns, and developing the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.
When students understand what they are doing, something remarkable happens.
They stop fearing Mathematics. They begin to enjoy it.
And once that happens, improvement naturally follows.
Welcome to 180° H2 Math Centre.
I hope you’ll experience that journey too.

Origins
Our story
How it all began
My journey into teaching wasn’t something I had planned from the beginning.
Like many students, I once stood where my students are today—preparing for examinations, wondering about my future, and discovering just how rewarding it could be to solve a difficult mathematical problem.
After graduating from Nanyang Technological University with a degree in Engineering, I began tutoring while working in the engineering industry. What started as a part-time commitment gradually became something far more meaningful.
The more I taught, the more I realised that my greatest satisfaction didn’t come from engineering projects—it came from seeing students understand concepts they had previously struggled with.
In 2013, a new opportunity emerged – one that aligned more deeply with my growing passion. Recognising my long-term dedication to students and education, I made the bold decision to leave the engineering field and start my own tuition centre, where I spent over a decade helping students achieve academic success in O-level and A-Level Mathematics.
In 2025, I made a pivotal decision to focus exclusively on A-Level H2 Math. That passion led me to establish 180° H2 Math Centre, where I could devote myself fully to helping JC students navigate one of the most challenging subjects in their academic journey.
Since then, I have continued to refine my teaching approach, develop my own curriculum, write original teaching materials, and conduct research into Mathematics education. I believe that great teaching is never static. Every year is an opportunity to improve, learn, and discover better ways of helping students succeed.
Even today, I still find genuine joy in solving Mathematics problems. Occasionally, while writing a solution on the board, I’ll smile and joke with my students,
“Nice… I teach myself happy.”
The class usually laughs, but there’s truth behind the joke.
I genuinely enjoy Mathematics, and I hope that enthusiasm helps students see the subject in a different light.

Our Values
Why 180ᵒ

People often ask why I chose the name 180° H2 Math Centre.
The answer goes beyond Mathematics.
In geometry, 180° represents a complete turn—a change in direction and a new perspective. To me, it symbolises the transformation I hope every student experiences during their journey with us.
Many students first walk through our doors feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or convinced that H2 Math is simply beyond them. My goal is to help them make a complete turnaround—not only in their grades, but also in their confidence, problem-solving ability, and attitude towards learning.
You’ll also notice the π (pi) symbol in our logo. Embedded within π are the letters J and C, signifying our commitment to Junior College (JC) H2 Math education. But π represents more than just numbers; it symbolises 180 degrees—a complete transformation. I believe that every student has the potential to make a 180-degree shift, not just in their attitude towards math but in their grades—from an F to an A, unlocking their fullest potential.
This is the essence of our tagline: “Where transFormAtion begins.” With an arrow guiding the journey from F to A, our logo embodies the promise of growth, confidence, and success.
A true Mathematical metamorphosis.
Join us, and let’s redefine the way you see Math—one degree at a time.

Quality Over Quantity 💎
180° H2 Math Centre has never aimed to become the biggest tuition centre. The focus has always been on providing every student with consistent guidance, personal attention and meaningful learning experiences.
What I Believe About Learning Mathematics
Every teacher has a different way of teaching. Over the years, I have developed a set of principles that guide every lesson, worksheet, and interaction with my students. These beliefs shape how I teach H2 Mathematics and form the foundation of everything we do at 180° H2 Math Centre.
1. Understanding Comes Before Memorisation 🧠
Many students believe success in H2 Math comes from memorising formulas and practising hundreds of questions. While practice is important, it is only truly effective when students understand the concepts behind each method.
In my lessons, I focus on helping students understand why a solution works, not just how to arrive at the answer. Once students develop a strong conceptual foundation, they become more confident tackling unfamiliar questions instead of relying on memorised techniques.
2. Never Give Up on a Student 🌱
I have taught students who consistently scored As and those who struggled to pass their examinations.
One thing I have learnt is that students learn at different speeds, but that does not mean they cannot improve.
My role is not simply to teach the syllabus. It is to identify where each student is struggling, explain concepts from different perspectives when necessary, and help them make steady progress throughout their JC journey.
I never expect every student to start at the same level.
I simply expect them to be willing to learn.
3. Teach Students, Not Timetables 🧭
Every class is different.
Some concepts click immediately, while others require a different explanation or more guided practice.
Rather than following a rigid lesson plan, I adapt my teaching according to how well students understand the topic. If a concept has not been fully understood, I would rather spend extra time reinforcing it than move on simply because the timetable says so.
My goal is not to finish the syllabus quickly.
My goal is to ensure students genuinely understand it.
4. Challenge Builds Confidence 💪
Many of the questions I use are intentionally more demanding than what students first encounter in school.
This is not to make learning harder.
It is to prepare students thoroughly.
When students learn to solve more challenging problems and understand the reasoning behind them, they often find school examinations and eventually the A-Level papers much more manageable.
Confidence is built through preparation, not luck.
5. Quality Over Quantity 💎
At 180° H2 Math Centre, I have never measured success by the number of students I teach.
Instead, I measure it by the quality of learning each student receives.
That’s why I continue to teach every class personally, write my own materials, mark every assessment, and stay available to answer students’ questions outside lesson time.
I believe meaningful learning comes from consistency, attention to detail, and genuine relationships with students—not from trying to teach as many students as possible.
Understanding First. Results Follow.
A Final Word
Teaching has never been about helping students pass examinations alone.
It is about helping them develop confidence, resilience and the ability to overcome challenges that once seemed impossible. Over the years, I have been privileged to witness students transform from believing they were “not a Math person” into approaching H2 Math with confidence and determination. Watching that transformation remains one of the most rewarding parts of my work. Whether you are aiming for an A, rebuilding your confidence after a disappointing result, or simply looking for clearer guidance in H2 Math, I hope 180° H2 Math Centre can be part of your journey.
Every student starts somewhere. With the right guidance, consistent effort and a willingness to learn, meaningful improvement is always possible.
I look forward to meeting you.
